Full Description:

Our client is a leading insurance products and solutions provider based in New Zealand. They are looking for a Qualified Actuary to join their Finance team as Appointed Actuary. The purpose of the role is to fulfil all statutory obligations relating to the licensed entity, as well as working with the Finance leadership team to define and implement the Finance strategy that supports the overall strategy.

Candidates who are interested should have at least 15 years’ post Fellowship qualification experience and at least 10 years’ senior actuarial experience in Life Insurance. You should have experience in dealing with a Board and being a key advisor to the Board and in representing the best interests and rights of both policyholders and shareholders. You should have a proven track record of developing and mentoring talent.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Regulatory and target capital requirements including any statutory submissions required to be signed off by the Appointed Actuary.
  • Methodology, assumptions and calculations used for statutory liability calculations.
  • Complying with relevant professional standards, guidance notes, etc from the NZSA and any other professional actuarial body that the AA belongs to.
  • Providing oversight and assistance where necessary, in any business as usual, tactical or strategic actuarial-related activity, including appraisal value type calculations, market research, debt refinancing, investment-related decisions, asset liability management, reinsurance strategy and implementation and business and strategic planning processes.
  • Providing actuarial advice relating to any strategic or tactical activity that may impact the customer, including product and pricing changes, customer remediation type activities and market research.
  • Contributing to ensuring that the calibre and level of Actuarial talent and skill are available to meet business needs and is kept at optimum levels, actively identifying key and high potential actuarial talent and providing input into retention and development plans.
