Our client is a service provider of progressive solutions for efficient and enabling credit and capital markets. They are looking for a Qualified Actuary to join their organisation as Investment Executive and Head of Pricing. This role is responsible for sourcing, evaluating and executing investments in non-performing debt portfolios across South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.
Candidates who are interested should have at least 6 years’ experience in investment management, debt portfolio management, or related fields. You should have knowledge of the South African credit market and regulatory environment and be adept at Python and SQL. You should be highly motivated and results-oriented, a strategic thinker with a strong business acumen, and have excellent leadership and management skills.
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining relationships with credit providers (banks, retailers, micro-lenders etc.) to identify potential investment opportunities.
- Proactively sourcing and identifying non-performing debt portfolios that meet the company’s investment criteria.
- Overseeing the Pricing Analyst team, providing guidance, mentorship and performance management.
- Ensuring that the team is conducting rigorous valuations of non-performing debt portfolios using appropriate methodologies (machine learning, DCF, Markov Chains, Run-off Triangles etc.).
- Developing and refining pricing strategies to optimise investment returns while managing risk.
- Leading and managing the due diligence process for potential investment opportunities.
- Assessing potential recovery rates and timing based on historical data, market trends and legal considerations.
- Negotiating with credit providers to secure favourable terms for debt portfolio acquisitions.
- Structuring investment deals to maximise returns and minimise risk.
- Coordinating with legal counsel to ensure that all agreements are compliant with relevant regulations (National Credit Act, POPIA, etc.).
- Identifying and assessing key risks associated with investment opportunities.
- Monitoring market trends, competitor activity and regulatory changes.
- Identifying new investment opportunities and potential strategic partnerships.
