Our client is a leading private healthcare provider in South Africa. They are looking for a Qualified Actuary to join their team as Data Science and Analytics Manager. As manager you will ensure that all data science and reporting / analytics initiatives are supporting the strategy of person-centred health and care as well as delivering consistent business value, while focussing primarily on setting up a team of Data Scientists and Analytics / reporting experts to enable the data science and analytics strategy.
Candidates who are interested should have at least 8 years’ experience working on data science-related projects and managing teams of people. You should have project management / agile certifications such as Scrum and Prince2, as well as proven experience in Python / R and tools / frameworks in the analytics / ML ecosystem such as numpy, pandas, matplotlib, SciPy stack and working in Jupyter notebooks. You should have experience in SQL and in working with large-scale data sets.
Responsibilities will include:
- Keeping abreast of and documenting current research in the area of data science and analytics for the benefit of business sustainability and alignment to best practice standards.
- Assisting with research on development and trends for the General Manager: Data Management and Analytics.
- Ensuring that the data science and analytics strategy is implemented and that process improvements for data science and analytics activities are identified and actioned.
- Identifying, in conjunction with the General Manager: Data Management and Analytics, data-specific requirements and changes to the existing data structure.
- Managing resource expenditure within budget allocated and understanding the financial fundamentals of the healthcare industry.
- Participating in the process towards compliance of improvement interventions and providing regular progress reports to the General Manager: Data Management and Analytics as well as the Data Council.
