Full Description:

Our client is a mortgage specialist who offer home financing and insurance solutions tailored to their clients’ individual needs. They are looking for a Senior Actuarial Specialist to join their Risk and Actuarial team in Durban. The successful candidate will work across both the Life and Non-Life Insurance businesses.

Candidates who are interested should be a Senior Actuarial Student with at least 3 years’ actuarial experience in a Life / Non-Life insurance environment, with experience in two or more of the following areas: SAM, IFRS17, ORSA, Valuations (Life / Non-Life) and AOS / EV calculations and Prophet coding. You should be strongly detail oriented, with the ability to see the “big picture”. You should be a motivated self-starter with excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), who shows initiative, is proactive and able to complete tasks with minimal guidance. You should be able to plan and prioritise.

Responsibilities will include assisting in the following areas:

  • Performing and reviewing monthly TP calculations (Non-Life & Life – IFRS17).
  • Performing and reviewing quarterly SAM valuations and returns.
  • Completing annual valuations as well as the QRTs and QRRs.
  • Performing and reviewing experience investigations.
  • Completing quarterly CBR returns.
  • Assisting group finance with completion of the half-year and annual Group SAM returns.
  • Performing the annual ORSA process (including associated modelling and reviewing of risk registers, relevant policies, risk appetite statements, standard formula validations, etc.).
  • Negotiating the annual Non-Life catastrophe reinsurance treaty renewal.
  • Analysing and reporting on claims and complaints in line with the PPR requirements as well as proposing improvements to data/systems to improve data quality/availability and processes.
  • Assessing regulatory requirements pertaining to climate risk as well as liquidity risk and developing the group approach.
  • Providing input into legislative requirements to ensure overall company compliance.
  • Preparing budgets.
  • Share price valuations.
