Head of Corporate Actuarial – SA1042

Our client is looking for a qualified actuary to lead their Corporate Actuarial and Client Administration teams and to play an active role as a member of the Life Management Team. Knowledge of the SA protection market and Data Science applications such as R, Python or Tableau is essential. Experience of coding in Prophet will be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Process Improvements and Efficiencies:

  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies to reduce manual effort within the corporate reporting team. This includes model developments, implementing and embedding data warehouse solutions in daily operations and improving controls and documentation/audit trails.

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Lead the work on putting together the SA business plan, including key Solvency II (VNB), IFRS (GWP, NTR), capital and cashflow KPIs.
  • Lead the quarterly landing process.

Quarterly and Year End IFRS reporting

  • Meeting internal reporting requirements on Group IFRS accounting and SA GAAP bases, including valuation of reserves and DAC, and value of inforce business.
  • Signing-off data for use in quarterly reporting.
  • Ensure that the quarterly calculations and reports are completed in line with agreed deadlines and to the accuracy levels expected by the users and recipients.
  • This includes providing inciteful commentary explaining the results and reasons for changes.

Local Regulatory Reporting (SAM)

  • Meeting External SA reporting requirements on SAM and SA GAAP bases, including ORSA and annual SAM return.
  • Ensure that the quarterly calculations and reports are completed in line with agreed deadlines and to the accuracy levels expected by the users and recipients.

Other

  • Participation as required in wider SA or Group projects, for example implementation of changes required to cater for new IFRS17 requirements.
  • Participation in other departmental activities as required, for example audits.
  • Actively participate and contribute to the company’s actuarial community, including relevant ad-hoc actuarial, inter-departmental or Group projects.
  • Development and management of data integrity.
  • Build and maintain a professional relationship with other life functional areas, internal & external auditors, local Head of Actuarial Function (HAF) and the company’s SA business partners.
  • Monitoring of expenses, liquidity and cashflows.
  • Keeping abreast of the current developments of SA & EU regulatory and financial reporting standards for life insurers.
  • Capital planning & management, including liaison with client marketing on new business capacity and development of capital solutions.
