Lead Actuary: Actuarial, Analytics and Insights – SA1218

Our client is a specialist focus underwriting business that delivers high quality underwriting operations by teaming up with independently minded, owner-operated business offering specialist underwriting and/or distribution skills. As a member of the team, you will join and lead the team’s actuarial, analytics and insight offerings. The role will require you to create and implement creative and innovative solutions to new and existing problems.  

Candidates who are interested should be a Nearly / Newly Qualified Actuary with 3+ years’ experience in Short Term Insurance, including experience in IBNR reserving, Standard Formula Capital Requirements and IFRS 17 application. Programming experience will be highly valued (VBA, R or Python). You should be a highly motivated team player who can also work alone, with a “make it happen” attitude.  

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Calculating, updating, and analysing claims reserves, including implementing actuarial IBNR reserving (for IFRS 17 and SAM). 
  • Working with the Risk and Actuarial team to understand and drive improvements in Standard Formula Capital calculations, conducting capital modelling where required. 
  • Working with the Corporate Actuary to implement actuarial aspects of the IFRS 17 reporting standard. 
  • Engaging with the Actuarial Control Function and external auditors as required. 
  • Reporting on key risk management matters in the business environment. 
  • Developing and reviewing analytical models/reports and communicating outcomes/suggestions with divisions and the UMAs. 
  • Working closely with the data management team, divisions and UMAs to drive overall improvement in data quality and availability. 
  • Providing support and growth opportunities to other Actuarial and Analytics team members
