Research and Analytics Actuary – SA1450

Our client is a reinsurance solutions provider to the Life/Health and Property/Casualty insurance industries. They are looking for a Research and Analytics Actuary to join their Life Australia, UK, SA, Canada division. This is not only a South African role and responsibilities include supporting business and clients in Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada. It also means working with colleagues from the United States, Germany and other countries. 

Candidates who are interested should have experience in applying statistical and machine learning techniques in financial services or related business to solve problems in practical and implementable ways. Experience with researching and assessing the business relevant impact of external trends is also important. You should have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team, deal with people at all levels and in all areas of the business and engage with clients, which include strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to summarise and explain complex information clearly and concisely. You should also be willing to travel locally (and internationally from time to time). 

Responsibilities will include: 

• Supporting analysis and assessing life and health reinsurance portfolios for the purposes of risk management, experience study, planning and quotation using advanced analytic techniques. 
• Doing internal and external research relating to pricing, products, underwriting, claims and other areas related to life insurance. 
• Understanding data and applying modern analytical techniques to the data. 
• Implementing practical changes based on research and analytics in various areas of business. 
• Supporting large research projects and surveys. 
• Presentations and training measures for clients 
• Marketing activities, including giving presentations at conferences and writing articles.
